exhaling butterflies

Updated: May 22, 2020

"You've uncovered my weakness and unlatched the door. I'm exhaling butterflies."

Breathe in...breathe out. I inhale so deep to hold it in. That thing within me that might escape. The rumbling. The spark. That burning that moves higher. It's caught in my throat. Ready to erupt like a fiery volcano.

I push it back down. Like frenzied wasps it buzzes. I feel the vibration. The wicked sting. From deep inside the serpents lurch and claw and climb their way out, prying open my mouth with their steely talons until I can't fight. Won't fight. My gasps and cries are muffled by the frenzied flutters.

You've uncovered my weakness and unlatched the door. I'm exhaling butterflies
