Wings
By Ilan Cooley
You spread your wings and could soar, high above us looking down.
But the strength you show is not in flight,
It is in the gesture of choosing to put your flock of tiny birds under them instead...
Nestled close, always safe, never to be harmed.
You know what many men have failed to learn.
Tough should never precede love.
Lessons can be taught through kindness.
And our words and how we use them matter.
These measures of greatness bind us.
Touched by a feather; protected by a wing.
